Pristine Water’s HypoGrow: A Smarter Approach to Farm Disinfection, Sanitation and Healthier Crops

When we think about crop health, we often think about fertilisers, irrigation, pesticides and the right growing conditions.

But there is another part of farming that deserves just as much attention.

It is sanitation.

Whether it is a large commercial farm, a greenhouse, a nursery or a hydroponic operation, microorganisms can find their way into the growing environment. They can be present in irrigation water, on farm surfaces and equipment, on seeds, or directly on the crop. And once they establish themselves, controlling them can become much harder. This is why good farm sanitation is increasingly becoming an important part of modern crop management.

The good news is that sanitation doesn’t necessarily have to mean relying entirely on harsh conventional chemicals. Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) is emerging as a practical option for farmers and growers looking for a safer and more sustainable approach.

What is Hypochlorous Acid?

Hypochlorous Acid is a naturally occurring disinfecting agent that can be generated from simple inputs such as water and salt through electrolysis.

This is the principle behind Pristine Water’s HypoGrow.

The HypoGrow System uses a dilute salt solution and an electrolysis chamber fitted with titanium electrodes coated with precious metal oxides. When DC current passes between the electrodes, the salt solution is converted into Hypochlorous Solution, also known as electrolyzed water.

The solution has bactericidal, virucidal and moderate fungicidal properties and can be used across several agricultural applications. What makes this particularly interesting for agriculture is that the same technology can support sanitation at different stages of the farming process.

Pristine Water’s HypoGrow has been developed specifically with agricultural applications in mind. It is designed to help farmers and growers manage microbial contamination and maintain healthier growing environments, while reducing dependence on conventional chemical treatments.

Farm Sanitation Starts Before the Crop Is Even Planted

Crop protection doesn’t necessarily begin when you see the first signs of disease. It can begin with the seed. Seeds can carry microorganisms that may later affect germination, seedlings and the developing crop. Using Hypochlorous Solution for seed disinfection can therefore become one part of a broader farm hygiene programme.

From there, sanitation can continue throughout the crop cycle. From the water used for irrigation to the surfaces and equipment that come into contact with the crop.

Pristine Water’s HypoGrow applications include seed disinfection, irrigation water treatment, crop protection, greenhouse farming and hydroponics.

Keeping Farm Surfaces Clean

A farm is more than just the soil and the plants.

Tools, trays, equipment, work surfaces, growing structures and other areas can all come into contact with plants and water. Regular cleaning and disinfection of these surfaces can help reduce potential sources of microbial contamination. This is especially relevant in controlled growing environments, but the principle applies to open farms as well.

Farm sanitation is not limited to a greenhouse. Whether crops are grown under protected cultivation or in an open field, maintaining hygiene around the growing operation can be an important part of responsible crop management.

An Alternative to Heavy Chemical Dependence

Farmers have always had to balance crop protection with cost, productivity and the impact of what they put into the growing environment.

Hypochlorous Solution offers another tool in that equation. Pristine Water’s HypoGrow is designed to help manage microbial contamination while reducing dependence on conventional chemical treatments. It is a safe, eco-friendly and effective solution for healthier crops.

It can be produced on site, which also means growers can have access to Hypochlorous Solution when they need it rather than relying entirely on stored supplies.

Hypogrow configurations by Pristine Water

Pristine Water offers different HypoGrow configurations, including continuous HOCl generators, batch HOCl generators and ready-to-use HypoGrow solutions, allowing the technology to be adapted to different agricultural operations. The continuous systems can also automate salt feeding, operation, storage and dosing for larger establishments that require a consistent supply of Hypochlorous Solution.

A Technology Already Being Used in IARI Pusa

The Pristine Water sanitation machine is working in the greenhouse at CPCT, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa Institute, New Delhi.

HypoGrow has been successfully tested at the IARI Pusa Institute under ICAR for tomato plant virus elimination and general sanitation. It has controlled the tomato curly leaf virus and mosaic viruses in the plants.

This real-world application is an encouraging example of how on-site Hypochlorous Solution generation can be incorporated into agricultural sanitation practices.

A Cleaner Farm Starts With Better Sanitation

There is no single solution for every crop or every farming challenge. But as agriculture continues to evolve, farmers are looking for practical ways to protect crops while reducing unnecessary chemical dependence.

Hypochlorous Solution provides one such option.

From open-field farms and greenhouses to nurseries and hydroponic systems, Pristine Water’s HypoGrow can support a range of applications including farm surface disinfection, seed disinfection, irrigation water treatment, crop protection and pre- and post-harvest sanitation.

At Pristine Water, our goal is to make effective sanitation more accessible to farmers and growers through on-site Hypochlorous Solution generation.
