Pristine Water offers complete automated Thermal Power Plant Electrochlorination systems, including cooling water, pretreatment and forebay chlorination.
Why it matters? Most power plants, be it Nuclear or Gas or Coal based, come up close to rivers, canals and the sea as they need large amounts of cooling-water. All water, especially sea water, contains fish, sea organisms, pathogens and algae. This leading to micro and macro fouling which adversely affects the efficiency of the power plant.
During seawater intake in a power plant, it is essential to remove all organisms, pathogens, and fish from the water, as they cause slime formation on the surface and choke the pipeline. Clarifiers and filters are used to move the sand and most of the aquatic life, very small pathogens, and algae make it past the filter. Pristine Water Electro chlorination produces sodium hypochlorite solution from seawater and electricity is dosed at the seawater intake and pre-treatment plant to kill these pathogens and render the water pure to be taken into the system for further processing.
Cooling water towers, especially during higher temperatures, are susceptible to the growth of algae and slime. For cooling water, there are three possible application points for chlorination - intake water, circulating water and service water.
All cooling water applications require control of bacteria, algae and slime, microbiological influenced corrosion (MIC), biofouling, and fouled heat-exchange surfaces. In salt or brackish water systems, particularly marine environments, it’s wise to chlorinate ahead of the cooling water intake screens to help control molluscs, barnacles and sponges. Freshwater cooling circuits can take advantage of short contact times; and the point of application can be close to the condenser water tubes.
